Questions:
1. I would describe my artistic perspective as trying to capture the most beautiful parts of the world. Although I always try to achieve realism, I think it's important not to lose the life in my drawings. I think that the most rewarding thing about being an artist is using my skills to create something beautiful. I feel proud whenever I look back at my artwork and can say, "I created that." Some of the most important skills I draw upon to create my work are my abilities to apply my creativity and my unique perspective. I think being able to see what you want to draw is just as important as being "talented." The most important thing I've learned through art making is that what you create does not have to be picture-perfect. Something I like to tell myself if I'm not satisfied with my piece is if that if someone wanted a picture, they could've taken a picture.

2. My first piece I chose was the still life of the teddy bear. It was one of the projects from the beginning of the year. I was unfamiliar with certain blending techniques. I still occasionally used my fingers to blend instead of a blending stub. I also think that it didn't showcase my creativity as well as it could have. My composition wasn't very interesting.
My second piece was my self portrait. I chose this piece because I thought it showed my growth as an artist. In this piece I used blending brushes and techniques I learned in class to use pastels. I also think that being able to use color helped me use my creativity more. |
6. My favorite medium to work with this semester was pastels. I enjoyed the vibrant colors and how well they blend together. They remind me of painting, but I feel like I have more control using pastels. I was able to master the techniques associated with pastels through practice. We did many exercises in class to improve our skills with pastels. My favorite practice was drawing the colorful eggs with dramatic lighting. I learned how to blend pastels better. It was one of my favorite drawing practices and it ended up helping me a lot for my self portrait.

7. I think the project I felt least successful was the contour line drawing. I feel this way because I didn't have a good understanding of perspective. I also was much more impatient at the beginning of the year, so I rushed many details that I should've taken my time on. The piece is sloppy and rushed. If I were to redo this piece, I would take my time with it. I would also probably choose a slightly smaller area to work with, because a whole room can be overwhelming. I think if I took my time and tried to work in every detail, the drawing would showcase my abilities as an artist better. It would also help me work on my patience while drawing, which is something I constantly have to improve. I think that redoing that piece would also improve my idea of shape. ____.
