For this painting I knew I wanted to do something in watercolors. I never really used watercolors before this class other than from when I was a little kid. I was never patient enough for all the layers it took and would constantly cause the paper to pill up. But using them to paint Venice at the beginning of the semester gave me a new appreciation for them. I was also eager to experiment with using pen with my watercolor painting. I chose to paint the Duke gardens because I spent a lot of time there as a child with my mom-- a Duke alumna-- so it has a sentimental value to me. I also wanted to capture all the beautiful colors of Autumn, which just happens to be my favorite season (and when I took the reference picture). Although it's a small painting, I'm still excited to give it to my mom as a gift.

This assignment was to watch different assigned videos to practice painting animal fur and eyes in oil paint in preparation for our pet portraits. The biggest challenge I faced with these is that I did not have time to let the paint dry between layers, which caused my colors to blend together when I layered them as opposed to creating the effect of hair. All things considered, I think I did fairly well on this assignment and it was very helpful practice before painting my pet portrait in oils.
Final Painting
This assignment was to paint the same image four times using a different color scheme. Overall I think I did well on this assignment. I wish I had made the cherries larger in m initial sketches because I would have liked to add more detail and fill up more of the space; I feel like these paintings have a lot of background.
Colored Pencil FormsThis assignment was to draw a sphere and a cone with colored pencils on black, brown, and grey paper. Overall I think I did pretty well on this assignment because I've had a lot of practice with it, although I forgot to not use yellow on black paper because it doesn't show up very well.
